In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxAirlie, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxAirlie event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
The bridge is an iconic structure in most towns used to connect people, places and things and that’s what TEDxAirlie is all about. Speakers’ topics might range from bridging the gap in the workplace for those with disabilities, to bridging a way back to memories for those with Alzheimer’s, to maintaining a family bridge for those affected by addiction.
TEDxAirlie aims to open minds with inspired ideas. We’re a group of volunteers who are licensed by TED to independently organize TED-like events in Wilmington, North Carolina. In the spirit of TED’s mission, Ideas Worth Spreading, we will host our TED event in Wilmington, and produce several TED Talks centered around varying themes relevant to our community; We will produce a live, half-day long, 100-person conference in Wilmington where a diverse roster of speakers are recorded giving the Talk of their lives for submission to TED.com. Why do we do this? Because we believe our city’s greatest assets are the ideas and dreams of its citizenry, and we want to be the platform that gives those ideas and dreams a voice.
